Meditation and Stress

22 06 2009

Meditation is a very useful tool as well in the long term management of stress. I have studied a form called CSM, Clinically Standardized Meditation, created by Dr. Pat Carrington.  Contact me if you would like some more information regarding how to learn it.

This article provides a nice overview of the benefits of meditation regarding stress. Enjoy!

What is TAT?

16 06 2009

TAT (Tapas Acupressuer Technique) is another energy/meridian bases protocol I use to relieve stress and a multitude of emotional blocks. It has very good uses, and use it in combination with EFT. There are some clients who don’t like that tapping of EFT, so this works nicely for them.

Tapas Acupressure Technique also abbreviated as TAT is a method of releasing emotions from painful traumatic memories through acupressure and simple poses.  TAT has been proven helpful for eliminating fears and phobias, weight loss, eating disorders, allergies, past trauma, and mental and emotional issues. TAT recipients also report feelings of deep relaxation, calm, and personal empowerment.  The recipient remains fully clothed and can either sit or lie down during the technique.  The pose is done by touching points at the front and back of the head.  The practitioner uses only the normal pressure of light touch on the recipient’s face and the back of the head to stimulate certain acupuncture points. This helps heal energy meridians. The basic pose and steps of TAT are easy to learn and simple to teach. Based on the ancient teachings of Traditional Chinese Medicine and yoga, TAT is easily to assimilate by diverse cultures because of its basis in natural healing. Once you are in the TAT pose, you put your attention on a short set of seven steps which have been proven to be highly effective in eliminating the negatively empowering aspects of a trouble. A trouble can be a negative limiting belief, a stuck emotion, an allergic reaction and sometimes even a physical pain. After being in the TAT pose and doing the steps, you are delivered to a place of inner freedom, relaxation and peace. This process usually takes about 15 minutes.  By being in the TAT pose, the divine healing energy of life appears with healing energy. When your inner child is in the presence of that loving energy the resistance and stress dissapate.  All that remains is the inner pleasure of contact with that love.  Going back to that inner place of love and safety allows the person to connect with others without fear.  As a person does the TAT process, they usually experience greater peace with each of the seven steps. TAT was developed by Tapas Fleming in the nineties. Ms. Fleming is a licensed acupuncturist.  She describes TAT as “With one simiple pose and a few short steps, you cross the bridge that leads from mental and emotional turmoil to the calm repose of your true Self.”

What is EFT anyway?

15 06 2009

The best nutshell description is from Gary Craig himself, as written on his site, www.emofree.com:

What is EFT?

EFT is a powerful new discovery that combines two well established sciences so you can benefit from both at the same time:

  1. Mind Body Medicine
  2. Acupuncture (without needles).

In essence, EFT is an emotional version of acupuncture wherein we stimulate certain meridian points by tapping on them with our fingertips. This addresses a new cause for emotional issues (unbalanced energy meridians). Properly done, this frequently reduces the therapeutic process from months or years down to hours or minutes. And, since emotional stress can contribute to pain, disease and physical ailments, we often find that EFT provides astonishing physical relief.

Not sure you need stress management?

Stress can take a big toll, not only emotionally, but on your physical health as well.  The following article appears on www.webmd.com, and gives some insights as to the effects of prolonged stress.

Stress, Anxiety, and Depression: How They Affect Your Health

How Does Stress Affect Health?

Controlling stress is important to our health. Unrelenting stress can turn to distress. Stress is the body’s reaction to any change that requires a physical, mental, or emotional adjustment or response. Stress is a normal part of life. Many events that happen to you and around you — and many things that you do to yourself — put stress on your body. Some stress can be good. It keeps us alert, motivated, and ready to avoid danger. But too much stress can make us sick.

Stress that continues without relief can lead to a condition called distress — a negative stress reaction. Distress can disturb the body’s internal balance or equilibrium, leading to physical symptoms such as headaches, an upset stomach, elevated blood pressure, chest pain, sexual dysfunction, and problems sleeping. Emotional problems can also result from distress. These problems include depression, panic attacks, or other forms of anxiety and worry. Research suggests that stress also can bring on or worsen certain symptoms or diseases. Stress is linked to six of the leading causes of death: heart disease, cancer, lung ailments, accidents, cirrhosis of the liver, and even suicide.

Stress also becomes harmful when people engage in the compulsive use of substances or behaviors to try to relieve their stress. These substances or behaviors may include food, alcohol, tobacco, drugs, gambling, sex, shopping, and the Internet. Rather than relieving the stress and returning the body to a relaxed state, these substances and compulsive behaviors tend to keep the body in a stressed state causing more problems. The distressed person becomes trapped in a vicious circle.
